Last Christmas, my husband and I packed up with our grown kids (and spouse) for a few magical days in Leavenworth, Washington. One of the activities that we were looking forward to the most and an absolute highlight of our trip was a visit to the Leavenworth Reindeer Farm.
Getting to hand-feed the reindeer, feel their velvety antlers and soft nose, as well as learn about their habits and personalities was such a unique and fun experience. We heard fascinating facts, held a surprisingly heavy 20 pound naturally shed antler, and took group photos we’ll treasure forever.
Leavenworth Reindeer Farm
Located just one mile from Leavenworth’s Bavarian-style downtown, this three-generation family-run farm offers a rare opportunity to interact with reindeer up close. Opened in 2016, the Leavenworth Reindeer Farm is one of the few places on the West Coast where you can actually step inside the enclosure and meet these gentle, beautiful animals up close. It’s also home to the largest reindeer-themed gift shop around and yes, even photo ops with Santa and a small concession stand serving Alaskan reindeer sausage and hand rolled Norwegian potato lefse in case you need a bite to eat or drink.
More than just festive fun, I appreciate that the farm emphasizes conservation and education. Our experience was enriched by learning quirky reindeer facts (like how their eyes change color with the seasons).

Final Thoughts
Whether you’re planning a magical winter getaway or a unique summer trip, the Leavenworth Reindeer Farm offers a truly unforgettable experience. What’s even more exciting is that the Farm is open all year round (except March), so you can plan your visit at any time. We loved our time at the Farm because we didn’t just see the reindeer behind an enclosure, like in a zoo; instead, we got to enter the enclosure to feed them and fall in love with their charming personalities. And everyone gets to meet Sven, so please say Hi to Sven the Reindeer for me when you go!
