I’ve visited Dollywood many times, both in the heat of summer and bundled up during its magical Christmas season, and it never feels like the same trip twice. Upon entering Dollywood, my senses come alive with the sight of the steam from the train, the irresistible smell of hot cinnamon bread, and the vibrant sound of laughter and distant rides, setting the stage for what lies ahead. Some visits are all about rides and energy, while others slow down with festive decor and indoor shows.
What I’ve come to realize is that a true Dolly Parton getaway doesn’t end at the park gates. Pigeon Forge and the surrounding area deliver a full “Dolly Everything” experience, from her themed resorts and surprisingly fun dinner shows to scenic backroad tours that show you where she came from and how it all began.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through exactly how to plan the ultimate Dolly Parton escape with a ton of Dolly things to do in and around Pigeon Forge, including how to pick the right Dolly-inspired hotel, navigate Dollywood like a pro, decide whether Dolly Parton’s Stampede is worth it, and why a guided Dolly tour ended up being one of my favorite, unexpected highlights.
What does “Dolly Everything” Mean in Pigeon Forge
In Pigeon Forge, “Dolly Everything” isn’t just a catchy phrase; it’s a full-on travel experience woven into the area’s attractions, places to stay, and even the menu. While Dollywood sits at the center of it all, Dolly’s presence reaches far beyond the park gates.
A true Dolly Parton vacation includes checking into one of her carefully designed resorts, watching her stories come to life at Dolly Parton’s Stampede and exploring the rolling countryside where she spent her early years.
You can spend one morning riding coasters, the afternoon enjoying live shows and the next day cruising quiet backroads or sharing a memorable meal all without ever stepping outside the Dolly-inspired world that makes this corner of the Smokies so special.
Where to Stay? How to Choose the Best Dolly Parton Hotel
Choosing where to stay shapes your Dolly Everything vacation. Honestly, as a Dolly fan, you can’t go wrong with either. Dolly’s two resorts feel welcoming and thoughtfully connected to the Smoky Mountains. Both offer early park access, convenient transportation to Dollywood, and Dollywood’s famous cinnamon bread. Still, it’s the overall atmosphere and sense of place that usually guide the final decision.
DreamMore Resort and Spa: More Dolly-themed
DreamMore feels like a Southern storybook with its peaceful outdoor spaces and spa. You walk into a relaxing blue balcony overlooking the property. This is the resort most people picture when they imagine a Dolly-inspired stay. It’s nostalgic and full of subtle nods to her life and values. You can also book accommodation in Dolly’s tour bus for a pretty penny.

DreamMore is a great choice if this is your first Dolly Parton vacation. I enjoyed the spa services and relaxing by the fire pits after a busy day at the park. Their motto is “Welcome Home,” and it does feel very homey.

DreamMore has 307 rooms. The amenities include a fitness center, game room, both an indoor heated pool and an outdoor pool with a waterfall and large hot tub. There is a lot of seating in the lobby with games like checkers, and outdoors with rocking chairs and butterfly benches. DreamMore also has a spa and you must book your service in advance for anything from a mani-pedi to a massage to a facial to hair removal. There are six restaurants on-site, ranging from grab-and-go to casual eateries to full-service restaurants.

“With your head in the clouds, you might just dream more!”

HeartSong Lodge and Resort: Mountain Lodge
Heartsong leans more into Smoky Mountain scenery and modern design. You’re immediately welcomed by an atrium lobby with Dolly’s signature butterfly details and a beautiful 4-story high stone fireplace.
Their motto is “Where Smoky Mountain beauty meets refined hospitality”. It’s all about where Dolly goes to relax and get inspired, whereas the DreamMore is about Dolly’s home.

Heartsong has 302 rooms and suites, some with balconies. The amenities include fire pits, outdoor seating with rocking chairs, an indoor heated pool, an outdoor pool with a waterfall and hot tub, and a gym. It’s filled with personal touches, like every room has a sound machine with the noises of the Smoky Mountains. There are six restaurants on-site, ranging from grab-and-go to casual eateries to full-service restaurants.

“A Heartsong melody plays like a symphony… the sweetest music I have ever known”

DreamMore vs. HeartSong: Which Should You Choose?
The bottom line is that both options support a perfect Dolly-focused trip, so the right choice comes down to your travel style rather than amenities.
- Choose DreamMore is you want classic Dolly charm, storytelling, and a family-friendly feel.
- Choose HeartSong if you prefer a calmer, nature-forward stay with a slightly more elevated vibe.
Dollywood Tips and Tricks
Although you don’t need to do a bunch of planning and have your day meticulously planned down to the time you eat, Dollywood rewards a little planning, especially if you’re visiting during the summer or the busy Christmas season. I’ve managed to go during both busy seasons, and while both are wonderful, they feel very different. Here are my tips and tricks that I hope you’ll find helpful.

Ride the Roller Coasters Early (Especially in Winter)
If you’re visiting in winter, my most important tip is to ride the roller coasters early in the day. Once the sun sets, temperatures drop quickly and many of the coasters close when the temperature drops to around freezing.

What to Wear When It’s Cold
Christmas at Dollywood is magical, but cold. The fleece-lined leggings that I bought to wear under my pants saved me when the sun set as well as my favorite Columbia jacket and a beanie, scarf and gloves for when those chilly mountain temperatures set in. Indoor shows provide great breaks from the cold, but you’ll still spend plenty of time outdoors moving between attractions.
One of my favorite ways to warm up was with a peppermint hot chocolate and Dollywood’s famous hot cinnamon bread, which somehow tastes even better on a cold evening.

Grab the Legendary Cinnamon Bread!
If there’s one treat you should definitely try at Dollywood, it’s the famous Cinnamon Bread from the Grist Mill. Baked fresh all day, this pull-apart loaf is warm, buttery and coated in just the right amount of cinnamon-sugar goodness. You’ll smell it before you see it and yes, it’s absolutely worth the wait. However, if the line is long at the Grist Mill, then you can also get it at the Bakery on Show Street or any of Dolly’s Resorts.
Don’t Miss the Dollywood Coal-Powered Train
The Dollywood Express is an absolute must-do. Ride it early if you can, as the wait can stretch to an hour or more later in the day. A word of caution: if you sit towards the front of the train, you might catch little bits of coal in your face, especially if you lean out. It’s a relaxing, nostalgic experience that shows a different perspective of the park and feels uniquely tied to Dolly’s storytelling style.

Be Sure to See the Replica of Dolly’s Childhood Mountain Home
You can see a replica of Dolly’s humble wooden cabin from her childhood within the park’s Rivertown Junction Area. It was built by her brother and furnished by her mother, so it’s pretty true to life.

Where to Eat in Dollywood
My favorites are either the seasonal tasting experience or Grannie Ogle’s Ham and Beans.
The tasting option works especially well for first-time visitors because it’s a buffet, giving you the opportunity to sample a variety of Dollywood favorites without committing to just one dish.
The Ham and Beans Restaurant reminds me of my Grandma’s home cooking, and they have the best meatloaf, ham, and turnip greens.

Purchase the Collector Cup
If you think you’ll grab more than one drink and you probably will, especially in the summer, go ahead and buy the collector cup. You’ll get free refills for the rest of the day, which is a total lifesaver when you’re hopping between rides and shows.
The Dolly Parton Experience is a Must!
First of all, it’s a great place to cool off in summer or warm up during winter. Second of all, it’s more than a museum. It’s an immersive look at Dolly’s life and legacy, from meager beginnings to iconic dresses, handwritten lyrics and stories rooted in grit and authenticity. You leave feeling genuinely inspired. Even if you’re not an avid fan, it’s impossible to walk away without a stronger appreciation for her impact and a smile on your face.

Is Dolly Parton’s Stampede Dinner Show Worth It?
If you’ve ever avoided dinner shows because the food usually disappoints, Dolly Parton’s Stampede may surprise you. It’s one of the few dinner shows I’ve attended where the food was actually good, not just acceptable.
The show itself is energetic, well-paced and entertaining for all ages. What made the experience memorable for us was when my son and his friend were chosen to be part of the show. Moments like that turn an evening out into a lifelong memory, especially on family trips.

Take the Dolly Tour: See the Side Most Tourists Miss
One of my favorite Dolly-related experiences actually took us away from the busiest parts of Pigeon Forge. The guided small-group Dolly tour explores the backroads of Sevierville and the surrounding Sevier County, showing a side of the region many visitors miss.

This tour brings meaningful context to Dolly’s story. You’ll see where she was born, where she grew up and where she spent her teenage years, all while driving through beautiful countryside that helps you understand the roots behind her music and values.
If you’re a Dolly fan, a history buff or someone who loves scenic drives, but don’t want to do the driving, this experience is well worth the time.
